Clearly I still have a thing for pigs.

Cowgirl Roots

This is where my dad lived as a kid.My cousins own it now so we were able to visit the other day. This is the old milking parlor. It was one of the most advanced dairy farms in the state when my dad lived there, complete with glass pipes! The old barn still looks incredible. They just don’t build things like they used to…The old grainery building which my uncle Jerry and his new wife Twyla lived in for the first 6 months of marriage. We explored the loft above where they lived together the other day and she told us what everything looked like and her fancy pink curtains with black carriages that she sewed and hung in the windows. Not exactly the roomiest home but you’ve got to admit it has loads of character! They eventually had to move out when the wind kept blowing out the stove light leaving with them with no heat in December.

A creek runs through the pasture behind the building where my father hunted muskrats. Past the creek lies the house that my family built for my uncle Roger and his new wife when they married. My cousin and his wife have since raised 3 girls there.

So there you have it, my cowgirl roots. Large farm animals, wide open fields and the comforting smell of a barn run through my veins.
