Saying Goodbye

Sharing your life with an animal means that you have a companion through thick and thin. You build a lifetime of memories with them and they love you every single day, whether you deserve it or not. Life is better with them in it. I believe that with all my heart. They bring so much good, so much happiness, so much warmth to our lives. I have been incredibly blessed by all of the amazing animals that I have loved over the years and I can’t imagine having lived a life without them. Unfortunately though, there comes a point where we must say goodbye to our friends and it is so much harder than we can ever prepare ourselves for. It is the amazing goodness that they bring to our lives that makes it so hard to watch them leave. And more often than not, it falls on our shoulders to make the decision. We must choose the moment to say goodbye, the very moment that we wish so dearly we could avoid forever. Today that moment came for my best friend’s horse, a horse that we grew up with, that carried her to countless horse shows, up and down mountains, and round and round the arenas at home. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the number of hours we spent together with her, riding away to our hearts content. She is very much a part of my friend’s history, as well as the history of our friendship. She lived a long and very full life, but it is a sad day none the less. So, in honor of our dear friend’s departure, I thought I would share some pictures of the wonderful companions that we have loved and said goodbye to over the last few years. Our beautiful Twister. These animals brought more joy to our lives than we could ever have asked for. The pain of goodbye is overshadowed only by the happiness they brought. We miss them all dearly but we remain eternally grateful for the chance to share our lives with these amazing companions.

  1. Great post Jackie! Saying goodbye to the fury faces that feel our days is hard to do. 5 years ago I said goodbye to my sweet Harley girl (australia shephard) and although it’s gotten easier as the years pass, there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about her and all the love she gave.
